The term ‘insomnia’ does not refer to the night or two of poor sleep all have now and then, especially associated with stressful life events. Insomnia is a difficulty of at least one month’s duration involving problems initiating sleep, maintaining sleep, or early-morning awakening with inability to return to sleep. Insomnia can lead to significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, educational, academic, behavioral, or other important areas of functioning.
Getting enough quality sleep can help protect your mental health, physical health and quality of life. Without adequate sleep, your mood is affected, you can’t focus and you are unable to pay attention. In children and teens, sleep also helps support growth and development.

In Malaysia, approximately 35 per cent of the general population suffers from insomnia symptoms and 12.2 per cent have chronic insomnia.
Symptoms of Insomnia may include:

· Daytime tiredness or sleepiness
· Irritability, depression or anxiety
· Difficulty paying attention, focusing on tasks or remembering

失眠症,简称失眠。是因为无法正常入睡,或者保持一定的睡眠时间,而导致睡眠不足。科学名词也称为入睡和维持睡眠障碍。引起这个症状的原因有很多,常见的原因有,环境原因、个体因素、躯体原因、神经精神疾病、情绪因素等。
失眠症的主要症状是对白天活动表现的影响,例如感觉疲劳、烦躁、情绪失调、注意力不集中和记忆力差等,所以失眠者的能力和效率往往降低。患者一般进入睡眠的潜伏期延长,睡眠时间缩短,在入睡过程中生理性觉醒增多。主要表现:轻者入睡困难,睡眠中易醒,并难于再次入睡;清晨过早醒来。重者彻夜难眠,常伴有头痛头晕、神疲乏力、心悸健忘、心神不安、多梦等,患者常对失眠感到焦虑和恐惧。
